Richard Sharpe began as a private, serving the British army in India. In this collection of five Sharpe books by Bernard Cornwell, written between 1985 and 1990, the leader of the 95th Rifles finds himself as a field officer, in charge of a regiment, and a staff officer at the Battle of Waterloo.
This climactic sequence of novels was originally meant to end Sharpe's adventures at 11 books, mirroring Cornwell's inspiration Hornblower by C. S. Forester. But he changed his mind, and the series recently celebrated its 40th year with its 22nd novel, Sharpe's Assassin.
Follow Sharpe's earliest adventures with Books 1-5. Books 6-10 take Sharpe across the Iberian Peninsula, and Books 11-13, 15-16 contain some of the most iconic novels in the series.

Sharpe's Honour
Spain, February 1813
As war in Europe hangs in the balance, Major Richard Sharpe finds himself caught in the web of a secret plot, convicted for a murder that leads him to the gallows.
Escaping the rope, but imprisoned by a cunning French spy, Sharpe has little hope of survival as his battalion marches through the misty hills to Vitoria: the city of golden spires where the French army awaits. But if there is one man capable of defeating extraordinary odds to restore his honour in only the way he knows how, it's Sharpe...
Sharpe’s Regiment
England, 1813
When a whole battalion of British soldiers goes missing, Major Richard Sharpe returns to
England to the mists of a shadowy political game. For soldiers are being sold like slaves, his regiment is in serious danger – and the enemy lies in a new world for Sharpe: at the heart of Whitehall.
In order to find the missing men, someone must go undercover, disguising themselves as a new recruit to join the British army and expose a nest of high-ranking conspirators. Taking one of his biggest gambles, risking his reputation and his life to save his abandoned regiment, is Sharpe ...
Sharpe's Siege
France, 1814
On a dangerous mission to capture a coastal fortress in France, Major Richard Sharpe finds himself betrayed by a double agent, and abandoned deep in enemy territory. His only hope of escape is to trust an unscrupulous American mercenary- a man who has no loyalty to the British.
Fighting rages along the Atlantic coast and the besieged French fortress is ablaze with battle. Outnumbered and out of ammunition, the British can only hold back the onslaught. And fighting to keep the dreams of invasion alive, outwitting the enemy at every turn, is Sharpe...
Sharpe's Revenge
France, 1814
As rumours swirl of Napoleon's surrender, it seems that an end is finally within reach after years of war. But for the allies and for Major Richard Sharpe - caught in a trap when an old adversary frames him for stealing Napoleon's treasure – the fight is not yet over.
The great city of Toulouse must be taken, and the French will defend their territory to the death. Raising his sword again in one of the bloodiest conflicts he's ever faced, and waging a personal war against the man daring to orchestrate his downfall, is Sharpe...
Sharpe’s Waterloo
Brussels, June 1815
With Emperor Napoleon at its head, an enormous French army marches towards Brussels. In preparation for a grand society ball, the British and their allies also converge on the city, and it falls to Lieutenant-Colonel Richard Sharpe to convince the inexperienced Prince of Orange of the incoming attack - yet he refuses to heed Sharpe's warning.
A decisive battle looms at Waterloo - and the fate of Europe rests on a knife-edge. Short on both men and ammunition, a victory for Wellington seems impossible. Yet taking
