Who are Biff, Chip and Kipper?
Biff and Chip are twins, and Kipper is their younger brother. Together, they live with their Mum and Dad, and their dog Floppy. They have loads of friends, like Wilf, Wilma, and Anneena, and sometimes they use their magic key to go on amazing adventures!
As you read along with their adventures, you’ll gain confidence in your reading skills, and you’ll be able to read longer and more involved books. Along the way, there are fun stories, excellent illustrations, and unforgettable mischief. With Biff, Chip, and Kipper, there’s always another adventure on its way.
What’s in the pack?
There are sixteen stories included in this Biff, Chip & Kipper pack, which are either 24 or 32 pages long. Each page has roughly three simple sentences, and there are a few activities at the end of the book to check your child’s understanding of the story. They’re perfect for readers with a firm grasp of everyday words, and can sometimes read alone.
Biff, Chip and Kipper have another set of wonderful adventures, along with Mum, Dad, Gran, Uncle Max, and many more wonderful characters. Anneena teams up with Sherlock Holmes, Botticelli has a problem only the kids can solve, and the Eiffel Tower goes missing. Along the way, our heroes encounter Bigfoot, journey to the Land of Letters, rescue a ship’s crew and visit the Wild West. The fun never stops with Biff, Chip and Kipper!
About the books
Read with Oxford has been a staple of children’s education since the first set of thirty Biff, Chip & Kipper books were released in 1985. Across six stages of reading development, the books in the reading programme guide readers from phonics right up to confident, independent readers. The range from Oxford University Press also includes Julia Donaldson’s Songbirds, Winnie & Wilbur, Hero Academy, alongside non-fiction and much more.
Biff, Chip & Kipper was created by writer Roderick Hunt and illustrator Alex Brychta in response to the lifeless and dull reading schemes of their childhood, that Hunt was seeing again when trying to find books to help his son. So, they decided to make them themselves.
The series of over 800 books is now a worldwide phenomenon. It’s been read by over 30 million children, in over 15 different languages, from more than 130 countries. In the UK, it’s part of the National Curriculum, and they have been borrowed from libraries over a million times. It’s been adapted for television multiple times, including the newest incarnation Biff & Chip, which premiered in September 2021 on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer.
