Axel Scheffler is a German-born illustrator and author who has become one of the world's most well-known and beloved creators of children's books. He was born on May 19, 1957, in Hamburg, Germany, and spent his childhood in a small town called Sulingen. Scheffler studied at the Bath Academy of Art in England, where he discovered his passion for children's books and illustrations.
Scheffler has worked on over 100 books, both as an author and an illustrator. He is best known for collaborating with author Julia Donaldson, with whom he has created several award-winning picture books. Their most famous book, The Gruffalo, has sold over 13 million copies worldwide and has been translated into more than 50 languages.
