Description :

A Treasury of Hadith
THIS CLASSICAL SHORT COMMENTARY on Imam Nawawi's famous collection of forty-two traditions of the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and give him peace, is
an authoritative introduction to key Islamic principles and teachings. Accounted as a hadith master, in this collection Imam Nawawi collated together those traditions that he
considered were axial to the entire Islamic faith. As the first title in Kube's new Treasury Series in Islamic Thought and Civilization, this accessible translation is presented in a beautifu gift format.

Ibn Dagiq al-Id (d.1302) was a ShafiI mujtahid imam, who was educated in Damascus, Alexandria and Egypt. Accounted as one of the greatest scholars in Islam in the fundamentals of law and belief, he wrote extensively in the areas of law, principles of jurisprudence, hadīth, and tenets of faith. Imam Nawawi (d.1277) was accounted as an Imam of the later ShafiI school, and was known for his piety and knowledge

A Treasury of Ghazali
ABU HAMID AL-GHAZALI (d. 505/1111) has been described by some scholars as the greatest Muslim in Islamic history. His prolific works, written over the duration of his relatively short lifetime have deeply influenced Islamic thought for nearly a thousand years. Al-Ghazali was a polymath who had mastered every discipline known to the scholars of his time. In many ways, his corpus of writings on law, theology, philosophy and Islamic spirituality represent the most influential understanding of the Islamic religion ever articulated.

This short volume, written by one of the world's leading experts on al-Ghazali comprises forty gems from al-Ghazali's inexhaustible treasury of writings, that give the modern reader insights into both the richness of al-Ghazali's thought, and how they can better help us understand Islam today.

Professor Abu Sway is the first holder of the Integral Chair for the Study of Imam Ghazali's Work at the Aqsa Mosque and at Al-Quds University in Jerusalem, Palestine. He has been Professor of Philosophy and Islamic Studies at the university since 1996. In
addition to numerous academic appointments at Asian and American universities, at the Aqsa Mosque, he teaches al-Ghazali's greatest work, the Revival of the Religious Sciences, dedicated to reviving the spiritual disciplines that lie at the heart of Islam.

A Treasury of Sacred Maxims
THIS INSPIRING COLLECTION OF SACRED MAXIMS is drawn from the genre known in Arabic as al-qawä'id al-fiqhiyyah. These maxims are pithy sayings that Islamic scholars use as a guide for Islamic practice in a wide range of areas, from the rituals of worship to financial transactions. Though technically translated as "legal maxims", the array of topics these maxims cover encompass the core ethical principles at the heart of the Shariah.

Given its concision, each maxim is rich in meaning, and the commentary provided by Dr Shahrul Hussain gives us a glimpse into the maxim's significance. The commentaries, written by a Western Islamic scholar, bring out the relevance of each maxim to the English speaking reader.

This latest installment in Kube's Treasury Series in Islamic Thought and Civilisation, will help deepen the understanding of key aspects of Shariah in its legal and ethical dimensions.

Dr. Shahrul Hussain is a Lecturer in Islamic Studies at the Markfield Institute of Higher Education. He studied Arabic and Islamic studies in the UK, before pursuing further study at the Azhar University where he graduated from the Faculty of Islamic Law and Jurisprudence in 2001. In 2010 he completed his PhD at the University of Aberdeen on the subject of Islamic law in Muslim minority contexts. He currently teaches students of the BA and MA in Islamic studies at the Markfield Institute.

A Treasury of Ibn Taymiyyah
THE DAMASCENE POLYMAtH, Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728/1328) is one of the most fascinating scholars from medieval Islamic civilization, acknowledged for his intellectual brilliance by both his admirers and his detractors. His readiness to present his own scholarly interpretations of scripture, and his instinctíve rejection of much of the received wisdom of his day, mark him out as one of the most original thinkers of Islam, and indeed one of the most incisive minds in human history.

This collection, a commentary on a brief sampling of Ibn Taymiyyah's writings, represents a drop in the ocean of his multifaceted scholarly legacy. The reader is given a taste of this scholar's views on theology, worship, spirituality, law, reason, revelation, and much else that is sure to enrich the reader's understanding of Islam.

Dr Mustapha Sheikh is a Lecturer in Islamic studies at the University of Leeds, where he is also the Co-Director of the University's Iqbal Centre for the Study of Contemporary Islam. He completed his traditional Islamic studies in the Middle East, and his MSt and DPhil at Oxford University. He is one of the UK's authorities on the thought of Ibn Taymiyyah.

A Treasury of Rumi
This new anthology of Rumi’s teachings is freshly translated and supplemented with commentaries, and also includes selected texts in Persian. The aim is to bring readers closer to his work's true, traditional meaning – and to the man himself as a great Muslim teacher and spiritual guide.

Besides illustrating the traditional basis of Rumi’s teachings, this Treasury displays his unique genius as one of the world’s greatest religious writers, whose voice speaks as clearly and compellingly today as in the 7th/13th century.
