With the help of the Borrower boy Spiller, the Clock family escapes another ruined house and is soon living in a teakettle by the river. But their troubles have just begun. If flood doesn't sink them, Or hunger destroy them, they may fall prey to the wicked Mild Eye.

The villainous Platters will not rest until they recapture the Borrowers, and they track the Clocks to their newest home: a window seat in an old church. It is up to the youngest Borrowers to face the Platters but will outsmarting the evil couple ensure the Borrowers freedom?
