Summary
If you’re aged between 7 and 9 and looking for hilarious and addictive kids’ fiction books, we heartily recommend one of the world’s top-selling children’s authors, David Walliams. Usually accompanied by Tony Ross’s inimitable illustrations, his riotously funny novels will keep you turning the pages. His first ten books are available here in The Terrific Ten! Mega-Massive Box Set. This comprehensive collection contains everything from his first iconic novel, The Boy in the Dress, to his tenth tale Bad Dad.
Some of the classic stories included are Billionaire Boy, about the richest boy in the world who is poor in friends, the dastardly deeds of Gangsta Granny, and the hilarious exploits of The Midnight Gang. Books by David Walliams continue to top our list of bestsellers and appear high on schools’ recommended reading lists across the country. Why? For their sheer excellence, witty words and modern kids’ fiction.
David Walliams is a comedian, actor, writer, and presenter. He’s best known for working with Matt Lucas on sketch comedy Little Britain, also collaborating on the shows Rock Profile and Come Fly With Me. He’s been a judge on Britain’s Got Talent since 2012 and was appointed OBE in 2017 for services to charity and the arts.
Since 2008, he’s become one of the most prominent children’s authors this millennium. You can read his books in 53 languages, and he has sold over 35 million worldwide. His full-length fiction, short stories and picture books are often compared to Roald Dahl. Walliams is passionate about encouraging people to read. In a recent interview with the Radio Times magazine, he said, “if I were Prime Minister, I would safeguard libraries and improve access to reading.”
Six of his novels have been adapted for BBC One as TV movies and one for Sky One. All of them originally aired over the prestigious Christmas period. Three books have become musicals, and another three have become plays.
Quentin Blake illustrated The Boy in the Dress and Mr Stink. The inaugural Children’s Laureate has written or drawn over five hundred books. His best-known collaboration was with Roald Dahl, but he has also illustrated books by Dr Seuss, Sylvia Plath, and Michael Rosen, among others.
The prolific Tony Ross has illustrated every David Walliams book since 2010. He’s written or drawn over two thousand books, most famously the Horrid Henry series by Francesca Simon and his own series The Little Princess. He lives in London and is probably drawing something as you read this.

The Boy In The Dress Dennis was different. Why was he different, you ask? Well, a small clue might be in the title of this book...
Mr Stink Mr Stink stank. He also stunk. And if it was correct English to say he stinked, then he stinked as well . . . But there’s more to this vagrant than meets the nose!
Billionaire Boy Joe has a lot of reasons to be happy. About a billion of them, in fact. He has absolutely everything he could possibly want. But there’s just one thing he really needs: a friend…
Gangsta Granny Ben’s grandma is the boringest grandma ever: all she wants to do is to play Scrabble and eat cabbage soup. But there are two things Ben doesn’t know about her:
1) She was once an international jewel thief.
2) All her life, she has been plotting to steal the crown jewels, and now she needs Ben’s help…
Ratburger Can Zoe keep her beloved pet rat safe from the clutches of the dastardly Burt of Burt’s Burgers?
Demon Dentist Strange things were happening in the dead of night. When children put a tooth under their pillow for the tooth fairy, they would wake to find something creepy in its place. Evil was at work. But who or what was behind it?
Awful Auntie Stella Saxby is the sole heir to Saxby Hall. But awful Aunt Alberta and her giant owl will stop at nothing to get it from her. Luckily, Stella has a secret – and slightly spooky – weapon up her sleeve...
Grandpa’s Great Escape Many years ago Grandpa was a World War II flying ace. But when he is sent to old-folks’ home Twilight Towers – run by sinister Matron Swine – it’s up to Grandpa and his grandson, Jack, to plot a daring escape. Little do they know the wicked matron is on to them...
The Midnight Gang When Tom gets hit on the head by a cricket ball, he finds himself at Lord Funt Hospital, and is greeted by a terrifying-looking porter. Things go from bad to worse when he meets the wicked matron in charge of the children’s ward… But Tom is about to embark on the journey of a lifetime!
Bad Dad Dads are fat and thin, tall and short. There are young dads and old dads, clever ones and stupid ones. There are silly ones and serious ones, loud ones and quiet ones. Of course, there are good dads, and bad dads...
